Katie Scherrer of Connected Communities will be leading a full day of training on the topics of library outreach to Latino and Spanish-speaking communities and bilingual storytime. This training takes into special consideration the challenges faced in connecting with these communities for libraries new to this work which may lack adequate numbers of bilingual and bicultural staff. Katie has been working in various positions connecting libraries and Spanish-speakers since 2005. She is an active member of REFORMA and ALSC who has previously served on the Pura Belpré committee. She coauthored (along with Jamie Campbell Naidoo) Once Upon a Cuento: Bilingual Storytimes in English and Spanish in 2016, which was recognized by School Library Journal with a starred review. Katie is also a leading voice on the use of yoga and mindfulness with preschool children. She is the founder of the Stories, Songs, and Stretches! certification and the author of Stories, Songs, and Stretches! Creating Playful Storytimes with Yoga and Movement.
