Discover the South Carolina State Library: NewsBank America's Historical Newspapers

Please join us to learn how to conduct current and historical newspaper research in NewsBank: America's Historical Newspapers. In this webinar, NewsBank representatives Kim Saunders and Deb Scott will demonstrate tips and search strategies for using this incredible resource which includes The State [Columbia, S.C.] from 1891-present and The Charleston Post and Courier [Charleston, S.C.] from 1800-present, as well as many other South Carolina and U.S. newspapers. NewsBank is available to all South Carolina residents, 18 and over, with a South Carolina State Library card.

  • Introduction and quick overview of America’s News South Carolina
  • What is included in NewsBank
  • How to search the source list for specific titles and how to determine dates  and formats.
  • How to search the full collection
  • How to use the historical archives
  • How to save, print, download, email, and cite newspaper articles
  • How to gain remote access to these rich resources with a free State Library card
  • Overview of the value of newspaper information for patrons and students
  • How other libraries and end-users are using these resources
  • State Library staff will also be on hand to assist attendees with conducting initial searches and tips for locating South Carolina-specific content.
