Description:
Join us as we commemorate Armistice Day marking the official end of World War I on November 11, 1918. World War I, often called the Great War, was a global conflict that lasted from 1914 to 1918. Initially sparked by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria by a Serbian nationalist, it led to a cascade of war declarations across the globe. This presentation will cover:
- The circumstances of the United States' entry into World War I
- South Carolina's significant contributions of goods and services to the war effort
- Notable South Carolina servicemen who earned the Medal of Honor for their heroic acts during the war
- Information on accessing genealogical and military records for research purposes
