The Palmetto State's Valiant Stand: South Carolina's Contributions in World War I

Description:

Join us as we commemorate Armistice Day marking the official end of World War I on November 11, 1918. World War I, often called the Great War, was a global conflict that lasted from 1914 to 1918. Initially sparked by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria by a Serbian nationalist, it led to a cascade of war declarations across the globe. This presentation will cover:

  1. The circumstances of the United States' entry into World War I
  2. South Carolina's significant contributions of goods and services to the war effort
  3. Notable South Carolina servicemen who earned the Medal of Honor for their heroic acts during the war
  4. Information on accessing genealogical and military records for research purposes
