"South Carolina's Matilda Evans: A Medical Pioneer", 

Dr. Walter B. Curry, Jr., Beverly Aiken Muhammad, and Anusha Ghosh

“South Carolina Matilda Evans: A Medical Pioneer” is the official biography of Dr. Matilda Evans, the first African American woman licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina. Dr. Walter B. Curry, Jr. hails from Orangeburg, South Carolina, where he began his academic journey by obtaining a bachelor’s degree in political science from South Carolina State University. He furthered his education by acquiring multiple graduate degrees in education, culminating in a doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction from Argosy University in Sarasota. In 2018, he established Renaissance Publications, LLC, a self-publishing venture dedicated to the literary arts, emphasizing historical scholarship that explores ancestry and local history. Beverly Aiken-Muhammad is the eldest granddaughter of Dr. Matilda A. Evans and the oldest daughter of Mattie Evans. She was born in Camden, South Carolina, and grew up in both Camden and Columbia. She is the Founder, Executive Director, and CEO of The Dr. Matilda A. Evans Educational Foundation LLC, a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Anusha Ghosh is pursuing her MD at the University of South Carolina–Columbia, having earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina Honors College, focusing on public health, language, and history.
