To honor South Carolina veterans this fall, the South Carolina State Library will host an exhibit of South Carolina Quilts of Valor. The Quilts of Valor Foundation is an all-volunteer national service organization whose mission is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing quilts. To date, this extraordinary effort has awarded nearly 200,000 quilts to veterans across America. The Quilts of Valor in South Carolina is comprised of hundreds of volunteer South Carolinians and several SC quilting guilds who have selflessly donated their own time and resources to creating quilts that convey to South Carolina’s veterans “Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and valor.”
Beginning November 1st, different Quilts of Valor will be displayed each week at the South Carolina State Library. Throughout the months of November, December, and in early January, the State Library will host six Quilts of Valor Award Ceremonies in which the quilts on display will be awarded to veterans from the Midlands. The awards ceremonies are scheduled on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on the following dates:
November 14, 2018
November 28, 2018
December 5, 2018
December 12, 2018
January 9, 2019
