The South Carolina State Library is hosting an exhibit of South Carolina's Quilts of Valor to honor South Carolina veterans. The Quilts of Valor Foundation is an all-volunteer national service organization whose mission is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing quilts. To date, this extraordinary effort has awarded nearly 200,000 quilts to veterans across America. The Quilts of Valor in South Carolina is comprised of hundreds of volunteer South Carolinians and several SC quilting guilds who have selflessly donated their own time and resources to creating quilts that convey to South Carolina’s veterans “Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and valor.”
Beginning November 1st, different Quilts of Valor will be on display each week at the State Library. Throughout the months of November, December, and January, the State Library is hosting six Quilts of Valor Award Ceremonies in which the quilts on display will be awarded to veterans from the Midlands.
The final awards ceremony at the South Carolina State Library is scheduled on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
We welcome the public to come visit to view this beautiful quilt exhibit and attend any of the awards ceremonies and the sewing workshop. Please join us in honoring South Carolina veterans at the South Carolina State Library.
