Please join us at the State Library for a Quilt of Valor Award Ceremony to honor South Carolina veterans at 10:30 am- 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. A Quilt of Valor is a handmade quilt of the highest quality made by volunteers of S.C. Quilts of Valor. It is a lifetime award given by civilians to veterans in an effort to convey to them that we “Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and valor.”
Throughout this three month exhibit, quilts on display will be awarded to South Carolina veterans and active military service members from the Midlands in Awards Ceremonies held at the SC State Library. Award Ceremonies will be held at the State Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesdays on November 14, November 28, December 5, December 12, and January 9, 2019.
This Quilts of Valor exhibit is open to the public from November 1, 2018 to January 9, 2019. For more information, please contact Virginia Pierce, Public Services Librarian, VPierce@statelibrary.sc.gov or 803-734-8646.
The S.C. Chapter of Quilts of Valor is comprised of hundreds of volunteer South Carolinians and several S.C. quilting guilds across the state who selflessly donate their own time and resources to creating handmade patriotic quilts for South Carolina’s many deserving veterans. We would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Anne Mixon, the SC Quilts of Valor State Coordinator and South Carolina Representative for the national Quilts of Valor Foundation and the volunteer quilters who have made this exhibit and programs possible.
