All ACCESS Pass: how Richland Library went Deweyless

This webinar is co-sponsored by the South Carolina State Library and the South Carolina Library Association.

In 2013, Richland Library in Columbia, South Carolina embarked on a massive system-wide project, involving all eleven branches, to convert its entire non-fiction collection from Dewey to a language-based classification system. Using BISAC (Bookseller Industry Standards and Communications) as a jumping off point, Richland Library created ACCESS, four language-based classification schemes based on the items in our collection. In this session you will learn why Richland Library decided to undertake this innovative project, how we accomplished the task in less than five years, and what the ultimate result of this project is for staff and customer experience.
