SECC Session: Creating Accessible Virtual Storytimes for All Abilities

Description:

The 2021 Southeast Collaborative Online Conference is a collective effort by the State Library of North Carolina, South Carolina State Library, Georgia Public Library Service, and Library of Virginia to offer innovative and useful online learning experiences for library staff at all levels through a convenient online conference.

Due to COVID-19, children and families are more disconnected from libraries now more than ever before, especially kids with disabilities. How can libraries deliver more accessible virtual storytimes that welcome everyone? Gather tips and strategies for planning, implementing, and evaluating your virtual storytimes to make them more inclusive for all. In this session:

  • Participants will acquire at least 5 accessibility tools or strategies to apply in virtual storytime.
  • Participants will learn about at least 5 ways to adapt and incorporate hands-on activities into virtual storytime.
  • Participants will increase their awareness in the value and importance of creating accessible and inclusive storytimes for children with disabilities in their communities.
