Please join us to learn from South Carolina genealogist Karen Strickland who will share the research journey she has taken to discover her own family history. Ms. Strickland will share the types of historical documents and resources she studied to locate her enslaved ancestors in South Carolina libraries and archives.

Karen Strickland has worked many years as a South Carolina genealogist and reseacher. In addition she currently serves as a library associate at Richland Library's Walker Local and Family History Center in Columbia. She has most recently collaborated with ColumbiaSC63, the Columbia Archaeological Program and the South Carolina Genealogical Society in conducting historical research for their ongoing work. She has also served as a guest researcher for the Finding Your Roots genealogy program with Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Ms. Strickland is a member of  the National Genealogy Society, former National Executive Board Member and Treasurer of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, and is currently serving as Chair of the South Carolina African American Heritage Commission.
